617 North Fourth Street        617 Front May 2003.JPG (34540 bytes)

A beautiful stone and slate shingle style Victorian. Built in the early 1890s and the home of J.W. Trainer a prominent local attorney, the home was then purchased by I. Sulzbacher, owner of the large Sulzbacher department store. The Honorable Rees Griffith Richards, judge of the Common Please Court and state legislator, was the first long-term resident from 1900 until at least 1915. The house was Photo9.jpg (26549 bytes) tastefully converted into four apartments in the mid-1940s with the 3rd floor left unfinished. The 3rd floor has now been finished into a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment with a rooftop deck overlooking the Ohio River and surrounding Victorian neighborhood.

Each apartment features a beautiful oak kitchen, with refrigerator, electric range and dishwasher. Apartments 3 and 4 feature oak floors in the Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchens, as well as, built in china cabinets. Apartments 2, 3 and 4 feature decorative fireplace mantles. All of the apartments  feature carpeted bedrooms, lot’s of closet space, and eitherPhoto5.jpg (17514 bytes)apt 5 deck view.jpg (39683 bytes) ceramic tile or vinyl flooring in the bathrooms. Apartment 2 has a private porch and apartment 5 features a porch overlooking the river.

Building amenities include a beautiful front porch with swing (see above photo), beautiful tastefully decorated lobby, in the basement there is a storage locker for each apartment, and coin operated laundry.  If available these fine apartments can be leased on an annual basis.
