Bayberry House Bed and Breakfast Policies

Welcome to your home away from home.  By making your reservation you are agreeing to the policies below.  To ensure that everyone has a wonderful time we like to make sure everyone has the same expectations for the enjoyment of our guest house.  If you have any issues or problems please let us know immediately so they can be resolved.  You can reach me any time at 740-632-2899.  Scott Dressel, Innkeeper.

Check In is from 4 pm to 6 pm by appointment.  We try to schedule check in before 6 to allow us to have dinner or attend events with friends and family in the evening.   A later self check in can be arranged if necessary, and a little earlier check in if your room is ready.  Because we do not have a traditional 24 hour front desk we ask that you schedule an appointment for your check in and call us when you are 30 minutes away so we can meet you on the porch.  If your plans change and you will be earlier or later than your scheduled appointment please call us and let us know your anticipated time of arrival so we can meet you.  

Check Out is by 11 am.  If we are not there when you are ready to leave you may lock up and keys may be left in the mail box.

Smoking & Candles:  No burning candles at any time.  The guest house and porches are non-smoking, cigarette smoking is permitted in the rear garden at the Westfall House or on the rear parking area of the Garrett House only, a receptacle is provided for proper disposal of cigarette butts.  Smoking is not permitted on the wood porches and smoking of cigars, pipes, etc., is not permitted on the property.  Use of candles is also not allowed in either guest house due to fire danger.

Cancellation Policy:  We are a small Inn.  We are delighted that you have chosen to stay at the Bayberry, Steubenville’s first bed and breakfast, where every guest reservation is important and special to us:  You must call to cancel, 740-632-2899:

For reservations of 1 (one) room one night if your travel plans change and you must cancel your reservation, please call 740-632-2899, by 4 pm the day before your arrival date, your reservation charge will be applied to your credit card at this time, (see exceptions below that require a longer notice time to cancel your reservation and at which time payment will be applied to your credit card).  You can reschedule your stay at no additional fee or forfeit your deposit of $25.  If you cancel after the allowed cancellation time, or shorten your stay while you are here, you will still be responsible for the entire reservation cost.  If you do cancel your full reservation, we will then issue you a gift certificate good for 6 months for the balance of your reservation less the deposit amount.

For reservations of 2 (two) or more rooms or stays of more than one night, group reservations, or whole house reservations, cancellation requires that you let us know more than 10 days before your date of arrival.

For these special dates:  Franciscan University Graduation weekend (usually the second weekend in May), Move-In weekend (usually the last weekend in August) and Homecoming (usually the second weekend of October) weekends, The Dean Martin Festival (usually Fathers Day weekend) weekend, Thanksgiving week, Christmas and New Years weeks; these weekends and weeks must be cancelled at least 45 days prior the reservation arrival date. 

Pricing Changes:  while rare, reservations made more than 6 months in advance are subject to room and rate changes up to six months prior your stay, you will receive at least 6 months notice of any change.

Housekeeping:  Innkeepers will be at times in the living areas of the first floor and storage areas of the second floor if we are there cleaning or serving breakfast.  Guest rooms and bathrooms are not entered except for cleaning at a time arranged with you generally between 11 and 3 daily.  Please let us know if you want your room made up.  Linens are changed during extended stays every 4th day, please note that beds are not generally made up every day during your stay unless you request that service and let us know by 11 am.

Kitchen Use & Breakfast:  Guests may store cold beverages in the refrigerator and use the glassware in the kitchen, and you can also make coffee or tea whenever you would like.  Please place your used glassware in the dishwasher and clean out the coffee pot after use.  Snacks and popcorn, etc. is fine.  The kitchen and guest rooms cannot be used for cooking and/or eating a meal unless you are renting the entire house and then must be left clean.   A continental breakfast is provided between 8 and 10 (unless you are renting the entire house, then breakfast is not provided as you have kitchen access).  There are several restaurants in town for lunch and dinner; a list is on our web site and also on the desk in the front hall. 

Whole house rental guests using the kitchen must leave the entire kitchen as clean as when they arrived, and dispose of all food and any other items brought into the house, trash can be bagged and left on the back porch.  Dishes must be washed and put away dry.  Appliances need to be clean and all food removed from the refrigerator.  A minimum charge of $100 will apply to your reservation if the kitchen is not left clean.

Children: are welcome at both the Westfall and Garrett Guest Houses and are considered adults for reservations regardless of age.  Up to two children younger than 5 may stay with parents in the same bed at a $25 per child additional charge per night, please let us know if you are bringing a child younger than 5 with you.   Children 5 and over must have their own room.   Please keep in mind that these homes are living museums and contain antiques and collections that cannot be replaced.  Children under 18 cannot be left alone anywhere in the houses at any time.  Children under 18 are not permitted to stay in Francesca's Jacuzzi Suite, in the Garrett house and are not allowed in the Jacuzzi at any time.  Whole house rental, or rental of the family suite of rooms (rooms 2-5 in the Garrett House sleeps up to 8 and comes with two bathrooms), works best for families traveling with children.

Minimum Rental Age:  25, photo ID required at check in.

Security Hold or Security Deposit:  A damage security hold may also be placed on your credit card which will be released on check out. Any damages or missing items will be charged to your card on file.  Or, a cash security deposit may be required (generally for large events, groups, and whole house rentals).  Deposits are usually $500 for the first day and $100 for each additional day of rental.

Registered guests only please:   No unregistered overnight guests.  Having a couple friends over to see the house before you go out is fine as long as other guests are not disturbed.  If you are renting the entire house you may have up to 4 non-registered guests over for a gathering, on the first floor only.  For larger events please see our event pricing before you make your reservation. The house cannot be used for a large college student or high school student party, however quiet semi-formal and formal events are allowed.  The owners are always present during large events.

Quiet Hours: evening quiet hours begin at 11 pm and last until 8 am.  No visitors during quiet hours.  The other guests and neighbors appreciate quiet behavior during these times.

Pets: are not allowed in either guest house.

Gas Fireplaces may not be used in conjunction with the air conditioners. We do not turn on the gas to the fireplaces in the summer, spring or fall when air conditioners are still in use. Please inquire if you have questions about seasonal use of fireplaces.

Liability for guest personal injury and property:  By reserving a room, the purchaser agrees to the following terms:  That he/she is responsible for all charges of indebtedness for room reservations and/or services ordered or rendered and any personal injury or damages caused whether to self, your family members or other guest you allow in the houses or property therein or on.  Charges are applied for your reservation at the time our cancellation policy no longer allows your reservation to be canceled.  The purchaser authorizes and grants The Bayberry House Bed and Breakfast permission to charge his/her credit card number for the amount of indebtedness with or without your signature.
